Realtors: How to Avoid a $11k Drone Fine | FAA Part 107

On May 1st of this year I passed my FAA Part 107 test! The Part 107 certification allows me to fly my drone for commercial uses legally.

There has been some confusion over what the penalty would be for operating a drone commercially without a Part 107 license. An article by my friend Larry at the Photography For Real Estate blog shed some light on what you are liable for as the drone operator and the agent.

"For a pilot who is unlicensed, the fine is $1,100 per occurrence/flight where imagery is used commercially. More importantly perhaps, the fine for the the real estate agent who hires an unlicensed pilot is $11,000. Of course, if you’re an agent who bought a drone and took the photos or video yourself, you will be liable for both fines."

So save yourself a headache, some money and make sure you hire a Part 107 certified pilot.
